Textile Art Alliance, an affiliate group of the Cleveland Museum of Art, is hosting a juried exhibition of contemporary fiber art, Focus: Fiber 2006 at the Artist Archives of the Western Reserve. The exhibition, running June 11 through July 28, 2006 will feature artists working in textiles or with textile techniques from a seven state region, including twelve artists from Northeast Ohio.
The tagline for this exhibit, “This is not your grandmother’s quilt show”, does not adequately serve the breadth of talent represented in this juried textile art show. The artists represent an seven state Midwest region with 12 of the 53 artists from Northeast Ohio. The artwork in Focus: Fiber 2006, a biennial show since 1970, has not been exhibited previously, and fully represents the range of textile materials and techniques executed in a contemporary style. Focus: Fiber 2006 was juried by Nancy Crow, who is the progenitor of the art quilt movement in America, both nationally and internationally respected.
