Bug lovers of all ages are welcome to participate in engineering a “bug-tastic “ masterpiece made entirely of recyclable materials! This year’s Recycled Art Bug Sculpture Contest is open to all ages, so whether you’re young or young at heart, you can do your part to help the environment and immortalize your favorite insect. Bug artisans can get the bug juices flowing to design a bug sculpture or other eye-popping dimensional piece of art using recycled materials including empty egg cartons, soft drink cans, plastic bottles, and even paper. Entries must include the creator’s name, age (for kids), phone number, and materials used. Adults entering the contest only need specify they’re entering the “adult category” instead of age category. All entries should be no larger than a breadbox and will be judged for creativity, construction and “bug-i-ness.” Prizes will be awarded to the 3 winners in each age category, and everyone will receive an entry prize when they drop off their sculptures at Garfield Park Nature Center. Submissions can be dropped off at Garfield Park Nature Center between July 13 and August 2 from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Entries can be viewed at the BugFest event on Saturday, August 12 at Garfield Park Nature Center in Garfield Park Reservation.
