Gallery One honors safety forces with "9/11 - A Tribute in Brush & Pen"

MENTOR OH - Gallery One’s fall 2006 art season launches September 1 with a month-long exhibition “9/11 - A Tributute in Brush & Pen,” commemorating the fifth anniversary of 9/11. Dedicated to our nation’s safety forces, the exhibition will feature patriotic artwork along with written messages from the pens of many of Gallery One’s most revered artists.

The exhibition is the brain child of gallery art director Larry Chaffee. “I’ve long marveled at the ability our artists have of expressing themselves - both in imagery and in words. We are combining both in an exhibition honoring police officers, sheriff deputies and fire fighters - the safety forces who sacrifice daily to protect and defend us.”

The 9/11 exhibition will feature artwork, photography, a collection of news articles, essays and memoirs.

Fantasy artist, Dean Morrissey, turned serious after 9/11 and created an oil painting, “Solidarity,” featuring an American flag touched with symbolism. The original painting (the centerpiece of the exhibit) has been printed in giclee canvases available to collectors. That along with John Weiss’ image, “The Greatest Generation,” will be on display. Weiss, a native Ohioan, said of his painting of an older gentleman, his faithful dog and an American flag: ”By facing the storm together, we’re going to make it.”

Thomas Kinkade’s image, “The Light of Freedom,” features the American flag with New York City and the Statue of Liberty in the background. It will be on display along with a printed statement from Kinkade who wrote of 9/11: “Now is the time when each of us must summon our courage and strength so that the ‘Light of Freedom’ will forever illuminate this glorious country. The 9/11 exhibition is scheduled to hang through September.

Gallery One is located at 7003 Center St. (Rt. 615) between Routes 90 and 2. The gallery is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday and Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday. For additional information, call 1.800.621.1141 or visit www.galleryone.com.
