Experience the power of Hurricane Katrina in Hurricane on the Bayou, an emotional and music-driven ode to the vital swamps, survival stories, and undying spirit of New Orleans. Narrated by Academy Award® Winning Meryl Streep, Hurricane on the Bayou premieres January 20, 2007 in the Cleveland Clinic OMNIMAX® Theater at the Great Lakes Science Center. The Science Center is proud to be one of the world premiere sites for this beautiful film.

A film unlike any other, MacGillivray Freeman’s Hurricane on the Bayou carries audiences beyond today’s headlines on a journey deep into the soul-stirring heart of Louisiana – before, during, and after the unprecedented devastation of Katrina. The audience is introduced to four charismatic musicians: the legendary singer and Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame inductee Allan Toussaint; the impassioned Cajun blues guitarist wetlands activist Tab Benoit; the 14-year-old fiddling prodigy Amanda Shaw; and the high energy accordion master Chubby Carrier. Unfolding against the poignant backdrop of the most costly natural disaster in America’s history, cameras follow the four musicians as they explore the electrifying culture of New Orleans, speed through the beautiful bayous on airboats, recount their personal stories of Katrina, and most of all, bring the focus to the rapidly disappearing wetlands that are New Orleans’ first line of defense against deadly storms. Vanishing at an astonishing rate of one acre every 38 minutes, the wealth, cultural vitality and very future of New Orleans depend on the preservation of these wetlands.
