Let’s ROCK the Carousel house again, with BEEHIVE! You fell in love with Pat McRoberts in BUDDY; now fall in love with these six girls as they turn back the clock to the 1960s and bring back to the stage, a show with even more energy than the concert-style experience of The BUDDY HOLLY Story. The sixties stood as a decade of change and women ruled the Billboard charts. Words alone cannot describe this high energy retrospective of the 60s. Stories are told through these #1 hits of the era. Come reminisce and have a fun night out with your date, daughter or with the girls!
Take a journey through the music, which personalized the laughter, tears and parties of that era. Begin - 1960 when “The Name Game” had every teen belting out “Banana Fanna Fo...,” continue with “My Boyfriend’s Back,” “One Fine Day” and “It’s My Party.” 1964 – Four guys from England with those funny looking haircuts stepped off the plane and America changed forever! Incoming was the British Invasion, with divas such as Petula Clark and Dusty Springfield. Who could forget “Downtown,” “Don’t Sleep in the Subway,” You Don’t Have to Say You Love Me” and “Wishin’ and Hopin’?” Now make way for the girl rockers who ruled the airwaves – Tina Turner, Aretha Franklin and Janis Joplin turned music on its ear “Proud Mary,” “A Natural Woman” and “Piece of My Heart” were immortalized in music history. BEEHIVE, the 60s musical will have you coming back a second and third time!
37 hit songs aide in the journey and are presented chronologically throughout the decade. The sounds of the 60s are sure to bring you to your feet and get you dancing in the Carousel aisle ways once again! Director and Choreographer Donna Drake is no stranger to the Carousel or to shows that rock. She first brought audiences to their feet during SMOKEY JOE’S CAFÉ and she is prepared to get the joint rockin’ again!
A LIVE 6-piece band will heat things up on stage as the first act develops the story of six women facing their independence while the second act leaves the story and rocks with the music that inspired them and now their daughters and granddaughters.
You will not want to miss Benai Boyd, LaDonna Burns, Danielle Garner, Christine Mild, Val Moranto and Alena Watters recall the wonderment that has kept us dancing for 4 decades! Collectively their credits include BILOXI BLUES, RENT, SMOKEY JOE’S CAFÉ, Carousel’s CATS (Christine mesmerized audiences in the role of Grizabella), TOMMY and NEWSICAL and many more credits to their extensive careers!
