GIRL CULTURE Exhibit • FREE & OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

The Junior League of Cleveland, Inc. (The JLC) is proud to bring Lauren Greenfield’s Girl Culture Photography Exhibit to Cleveland in March and April of 2007. Additional supporting organizations include the YWCA Greater Cleveland and Trinity Cathedral.

Girl Culture is a strong and powerful documentary photography exhibit by Lauren Greenfield that addresses the issues of women of all ages and the stigmas of beauty. The photographs are commanding, but reading the stories as told in first person from the individual standing in the photo is even more powerful. Every woman can relate to the inner most feelings of the women in the photos. The Girl Culture Exhibit has impacted lives all over the world with past exhibits being showcased in Perpignan France, San Francisco, New York, Los Angeles, Salt Lake City, Minneapolis, Evansville and many more.

Girl Culture is part of The JLC Signature Initiative. In the summer of 2005, The JLC began an intensive nine-month strategic planning period in developing a signature initiative that would make a significant impact on the Greater Cleveland Community and strengthen the name of The JLC. Out of this strategic process, the “Be Fit Be Fine” Initiative was developed. Under this initiative, three core projects developed: The “Be Fit, Be Fine” Forum, Food is Knowledge, and Girl Culture. The core purpose of this initiative rests in addressing the issues of nutrition, fitness, and body image.

Exhibit Hours:
Tuesday: 10-6 Friday: 10-6
Wednesday: 1-8 Saturday: 10-3
Thursday: 10-6 Sunday: 10-3
Closed Monday

The Junior League of Cleveland (The JLC) is looking for volunteers to serve as docents when the exhibit is open. Docents will greet visitors, answer questions and provide additional support as needed. Docent shifts will be four hours in length. Docents do not need to be art experts or have specialized knowledge. A genuine interest in the importance of promoting healthy lifestyles is all that is needed.

If you are interested in volunteering as a docent, please contact Michelle Arnold at arnoldmi2004@yahoo.com or 440-465-2384.
