A monthly series of educational, discussion-based night classes offered free of charge from 7pm – 8:30pm in the Museum’s 4th floor theater. Jason Hanley, musicologist and Education Department Manager at the Rock Hall, leads the classes, which are geared towards adults interested in gaining more knowledge about rock and roll history. This month’s class description is:
The British Invasion - The First Wave: 1964 – By 1964, many American teenagers had drifted from the raw sound of 1950s rock and roll and were instead listening to the polished sounds of “bubblegum” pop produced by the teen idols and girl groups. The revitalization of rock music in the United States came from an unlikely source – England, where early rock and roll had been mixed with British folk music, jazz, and the blues. This month’s Rock and Roll Night School will explore the impact of the British Invasion in 1964, examining classic albums by Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductees such as Dusty Springfield, the Beatles, Dave Clark Five, the Rolling Stones, and the Animals.
