It’s Not Called ‘Outer Peace’
Awareness of the depth at which we experience ourselves is the starting point for all change.
We have all heard it before; the peace we seek is in us, it is our essence. Knowing that is a simple exercise in intellectual awareness. Actually experiencing the depth of peace we long for in our daily lives is a different story. So often, we learn to think joy and peace come from sources and factors outside of us. If this were true, we would call it Outer Peace. In this session, we explore a unique approach to unlearning the idea that peace is something we seek, or go looking for.
The session begins with a guided meditation helping us to let go of the pressures of the day and bringing us closer to ourselves. Jim helps us to recognize how we learn to use unconscious thought patterns like judgment, projection and non-acceptance to seemingly protect us from less than peaceful experiences. We explore how these learned ‘protectors’ actually prevent us from experiencing peace by surrendering control over our peace to other people, places and things. We often think the others are the obstacles to our peace when actually; the obstacles are in us and are ours to remove whenever we choose. The session closes with a few minutes of quiet reflection followed by a time for any remaining questions.
Looking at the obstacles we create is how we remove, or unlearn them and allow ourselves to begin to rediscover the peace we forgot we are. Seeing ourselves on a deeper level offers a way of being in the world and experiencing peace that we can build upon and deepen every day.
