Prerequisite: Swedish, Russian or Lomi-Lomi massage, anatomy and physiology
Participants will need to bring a notebook, 3 sheets, 5 pillows, oil and a table.
The object of this two day workshop is to provide the necessary skills to assist the "Lady-in Waiting" through each trimester of pregnancy, labor/delivery and the postpartum period with massage. The benefits of mind/body medicine will be discussed and demonstrated. The participants will identify and learn techniques and skills necessary to relieve discomfort and fear due to the physiological and psychological changes that occur during pregnancy and postpartum. High-risk conditions and contraindications will be addressed. Special attention will be focused on the common discomforts of pregnancy: morning sickness, uterine ligament pain, sciatica, pelvic pain. lower back pain and leg cramps. The benefits and counter indications of aromatherapy will be introduced. Marketing skills will be discussed to help the participants build their prenatal practice. As a result of this workshop, the participants will have the skills necessary to offer their prenatal clients a full body massage, which can help the expectant mother to eliminate stressful hormones that affect both the mother and her unborn child.
