Kelleys Island | Saturday, August 23, 2008
Tour several of the Museum's natural areas and the famous glacial grooves on Kelleys Island. Lunch and a wine-tasting at a private cottage follow, featuring wines from Firelands Winery in Sandusky. NOTE: Participants in the Kelleys Island trip must pay their own ferry fees to the Island and provide their own transportation once on the Island. Sites to be visited are not within walking distance of the ferry landing. For rate information visit www.kelleysislandferry.com or call 419-798-9763. Plan to travel to the Island on the 10:00 a.m. ferry.
Trips will be limited to 30 participants and will have three or four group leaders to make them more meaningful. Natural areas tours will start at 10 a.m. and end around noon. Afterward, participants will travel to the designated winery or private cottage for lunch and a wine tasting. Group leaders will recap the morning’s events and answer questions about the natural areas visited. Each trip is $35 per person. A bed-and-breakfast package will be available for those who wish to stay for the night. BONUS: Those who register and pay for all five trips in advance will receive a beautifully carved wooden walking stick.
For reservations and information contact Lauren Kelly and The Cleveland Museum of Natural History at 1-216-231-1177 or lkelly@cmnh.org.
