The commuter experience in Cleveland as seen through the lens of a camera framed by a windshield is explored in prints, drawings, photographs and paintings by two area artists.
Emily Blaser received her BFA from The Cleveland Institute of Art where she studied with Carroll Cassill. She is continuing her work in printmaking on a Griffin press in her Ohio City home and studio which she shares with her husband and infant daughter. Other recent exhibitions include “Revive” at the Zygote Press Gallery.
Cleveland Heights resident Corrie Slawson earned a BFA in painting and printmaking from Parsons School of Design and a MFA in painting from Kent State University. Her work has been exhibited locally at Heights Arts Gallery, The Beck Center, Cleveland Public Art, SPACES Gallery and was featured in Angle Magazine. Nationally, she was a recipient of the 2007 Nancie Mattice Emerging Artist Award at Dangenart Gallery in Nashville, Tennessee. She was co-founder and Creative Director of www.hotelbruce.com, the now-archived, web journal of creative living in Cleveland. She is the program manager for Spectrum: The Lockwood Thompson Dialogues, a collaboration between Cleveland Public Art and the Cleveland Public Library, an annual series of public conversations focusing on issues about art and culture.
Zygote Press is a non-profit, artist-run fine art print cooperative located in Cleveland’s Art Quarter and is dedicated to creating active communications among artist-printmakers and increasing public awareness in contemporary printmaking. Zygote is supported by its resident artists, members, the Ohio Arts Council, Cleveland Collectivo and the George Gund Foundation.
