CSU Offers Creative Dance Program “Saturday in the Studio” for Cleveland Public School Children Cleveland State University’s Dance Program will present “Saturday in the Studio,” an introduction to dance for Cleveland public school children and their adult mentors on Saturday mornings from April 5 through May 3. Teachers and musicians will work closely with the participants in exploring their creative and kinesthetic abilities through movement improvisation and dance sequences. Students will also learn diverse forms of cultural dance through a variety of rhythms, tempos, qualities, and purposes. The last class will feature the students sharing what they have experienced with classmates, friends, and family members. Also, and very importantly, the program’s directors communicate the idea that all the participants, from the youngest child to the oldest adult sponsor, are artists, that they each have something important to "say,” and that the arts can serve as a vehicle for expression of their lives and their stories. “Saturday in the Studio” is free to first through fifth graders in the Cleveland Metropolitan School District with the requirement that a parent or adult sponsor also agrees to participate. All classes are held in the Cleveland State University Dance Studio, located at 2451 Euclid Avenue in the basement of the Physical Education Building, on Saturdays from 11:00 a.m. until Noon starting on April 5 and ending May 3. Class size is limited, and admittance is on a first-come, first-served basis. This program is made possible with the support from the Ohio Arts Council.
