Long Road Featuring David Budin, Kevin Richards, Bob Sanham, & Ray DeForest Tuesday, April 8 7 PM $15 Cool Cleveland video interview with David Budin
The group Long Road – five folk and rock music veterans with national and local ties – got together to perform one show, last summer’s “Can’t Help But Wonder Where I’m Bound: A 1967 Coffeehouse Concert” at Cain Park’s Alma Theater. The show sold out, and Long Road performed the same show in November at the Kent Stage in Kent, Ohio. Long Road is: David Budin, Kevin Richards, Ray DeForest and Bob Sandham. Julia and David handle most of the singing, with Bob joining in on harmony. The group produces some amazing three-guitar arrangements, grounded by Ray’s acoustic bass, with Kevin trading the guitar for mandolin on many songs. Besides the late-60s music Long Road does – song singer-songwriters including Bob Dylan, Gordon Lightfoot, Tom Paxton, Phil Ochs, Tom Rush, Tim Hardin, Eric Andersen, Joni Mitchell, Judy Collins, Leonard Cohen, Tim Buckley, Bob Gibson, Ian & Sylvia, and others – the group also does other songs, ranging from traditional folk songs to folk versions of pop songs from the past 30 years, along with a few originals. But you don’t have to be a Baby Boomer to enjoy them; Long Road’s shows have drawn people from college age to their 80s. Their shows are very warm and very musical, and Budin, who is also a former comedian, provides lots of humor, along with some historical perspective on the music. David Budin (guitar and vocals) – longtime singer-songwriter, music arranger, record producer, rock and folk musician, comedian, and music journalist; formerly signed as a solo artist with Sire Records, and a member of an early incarnation of Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band. Raymond DeForest (upright bass and vocals) – master of electric and upright bass and every type of music, Ray has played with area bands including Blue Lunch, Mr. Stress, Aces & Eights and Princess Ladia. Kevin Richards (guitar, mandolin, vocals) – veteran of many rock, folk and bluegrass groups; and founder and director of both the Fairmount School of Music and the non-profit educational organization Roots of American Music. Bob Sandham (guitar and vocals) – longtime folk, rock and country musician, who has played acoustic, electric and pedal steel guitars with Alex Bevan, John Bassette, Pat Dailey and many others. Don't miss the folk group Long Road live at Nighttown on Tuesday, April 8th.
