Farm & Garden Day Saturday, may 17 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. Garfield Park Nature Center Garfield Park Reservation• Garfield Heights Free!
Garfield Park Nature Center invites you to spend the day down on the farm! At one time most of Garfield Park was farm land. And still today farming still touches all of our lives every day. Whether you have a herd of dairy cattle, or 6 tomato plants on your patio, there is something for everyone at this event.
We will have displays of live farm animals, antique and modern farm equipment, and about how we can all become productive “mini-farmers” on even the smallest city lot. There will also be demonstrations of spinning, sheep herding, and more!
Free children’s hands-on activities and tasting stations will be going on all day. If your garden needs a scarecrow, be sure to bring some old clothes so you can build one here to take home to your garden.
Local vendors will have products available from local farms and items that you could use to enhance your gardens. Some items will be native plants and seeds, honey, and books. 11:30 a.m. Barb Holtz, Wild Ones president, “Gardening with the Earth in Mind” 12:30 p.m. Bob Kehres, Ohio Prairie Nursery “Why and How to Plant a Rain Garden" 1:30 p.m. Marilou Suszko, Author, “Farms & Foods of Ohio: From Garden Gate to Dinner Plate” Followed by a book signing
