Grand Rapids-based urban folk duo, LVNMUZIQ, will perform at Barking Spider Tavern (11310 Juniper Road – Cleveland, OH - www.barkingspidertavern.com) on May 30th at 7:00 p.m. There is no cover but donations will be accepted.
On the musical road of inspiration, shared by the likes of Janis Joplin, Tracy Chapman, and Natalie Merchant, you will find the steely reverberations of a self-taught, five foot four; barefooted ball of aggressive energy that is Liz Snavely of LVNMUZIQ (lovin’-music). LVNMUZIQ is best described as urban folk with an edgy classical twist.
Relatively new to the professional, national touring music scene, Liz released her first studio- recorded CD “Orange Kiss” on July 29, 2006. Since then, LVNMUZIQ has been gigging out across the U.S. in various pubs, coffeehouses, festivals, house concerts, and bookstores, sharing a unique brand of edgy folk beats.
In the past one and a half years, LVNMUZIQ has gone from being a local duo to a regional solo act to a national touring duo. They have performed in 25 states during that time. Though Liz quite often travels solo, she most enjoys sharing the stage with 18 year old violinist, Steph DeJong, who is a freshman Music Performance Major at Grand Valley State University. Though they are most different in appearance, musical background, and age (there’s a 23-year age difference between them) their onstage musical chemistry is truly impressive!
LVNMUZIQ’s second studio CD, “Contemplating the Void,” has been receiving great reviews nationwide.
“Liz has a distinct vocal sound that can warm up the chilliest spring morning and her songs have a way of working their way under your skin and making themselves a part of your being.” (Gregg Shapiro – Chicago Free Press). LVNMUZIQ is currently touring to promote their sophomore release (released March 1, 2008).
Despite the youth of her career, Liz has already shared the stage with talented artists such as Ellis, Pamela Means, Catie Curtis, Nervous But Excited, Julie Loyd, Emiko, and Jennifer “JJ” Jones.
As a child, Liz learned to understand music from musical mentors, dissecting each note in her mind and at the piano until she could master a song. It was this early lesson she later applied to her guitar and harmonica; now her instruments of choice.
Anyone fortunate enough to have caught a LVNMUZIQ show already knows the energetic stage presence full of fierce heart projects with intense and soulful lyrics about everything from relationships and loss to world events and personal growth. Determined to never put on the same show twice, Liz is constantly honing her performance skills and writing new songs to ensure every gig is a new experience for everyone. The only constant is Liz’s bare feet stomping fiercely to the rhythm of her funky, urban folk vibe.
