Spare an Evening to Save a Species 18th Annual Bowling For Rhinos
Support the animal keepers at Cleveland Metroparks Zoo. "Spare" an evening and help save rhinos by participating in Bowling for Rhinos, an annual fundraiser sponsored by the Cleveland Chapter of the American Association of Zoo Keepers (AAZK). Bowling for Rhinos takes place on Saturday, May 31, 2008 from 6:30 p.m. to midnight at Cloverleaf Lanes, 5619 Brecksville Road (Route 21) in Independence, Ohio.
Advanced registration for Bowling for Rhinos is $15 ($25 at the door -- subject to availability). The event includes three or more games of bowling, shoe rental, pizza, pop and snacks. In addition to the fun on the alleys, Bowling for Rhinos features a silent auction, pick-your-prize raffle, prizes for the bowler with the most money in sponsors and other entertainment. Call (216) 661-6500 x4439 to register or for more information. Registration forms are also available in the Zoo's main Exhibit Hall or download a registration form in PDF format.
During the last century, rhinos have been brought to the brink of extinction by poachers for their horns. The money raised through Bowling for Rhinos is pooled with funds raised by other AAZK chapters, then donated to rhino sanctuaries in Kenya and Indonesia. The combined fundraising efforts of all AAZK chapters over the last 18 years have resulted in donations of more than $2.1 million toward rhino conservation efforts.
