Influenced equally by Sun Ra and Punk Rock, Mark Sultan has become one of the most commonly heard names in American garage-rock. He performs under than name of King Khan and has several different bands that he performs with. The Shrines are known for being a full band compared to his duo(the BBQ show) and their new record is an instant classic. The Shrines music can be described is super-fuzzy rock n roll with horns that come and go to further the "60's throw back" vibe. This will be a big year for Sultan as the Shrines will perform at this summer's Pitchfork Music Festival and have recently signed a deal with the tastemaker label, Vice.
