CALIFORNIA DREAMIN’ (ENDLESS)
NESFARSIT
Romania, 2007, Cristian Nemescu
This dark farce, the first and only feature by talented 27-year-old Romanian filmmaker Cristian Nemescu (who died in a car crash while the movie was in post-production), won the Un Certain Regard section of the 2007 Cannes Film Festival. Based on a true incident from the 1990s, the movie follows a Romanian bureaucrat in an impoverished, godforsaken Carpathian village who waylays a NATO train loaded with American military and munitions headed to Kosovo. He sees this as a way to exploit and punish the prosperous, arrogant nation that abandoned his country after WWII. “One of the best films about how America is perceived abroad.” –The Washington Post. With Armand Assante. Cleveland premiere. Subtitles. 35mm. 155 min.
Show Times May 03 (Sat) - 9:25PM May 04 (Sun) - 3:25PM
