DVORAK'S RUSALKA The Cleveland Orchestra Franz Welser-Möst, conductor Camilla Nylund, soprano (Rusalka) Cleveland Orchestra debut Piotr Beczala, tenor (Prince) Emily Magee, soprano (Foreign Princess) Cleveland Orchestra Chorus Dvořák: Rusalka
The Cleveland Orchestra and Franz Welser-Möst celebrate their end-of-year opera-in-concert tradition with Antonin Dvořák’s irresistible Rusalka. Written in 1900 at the height of this Czech composer’s creative skills, Rusalka relates the story of a water nymph driven by love to give up immortality and live with her human lover. Her mesmerizing “Song to the Moon” resounds with captivating longing — and her newfound dilemma between life and love. An international cast is headed by Finnish soprano Camilla Nylund, Polish tenor Piotr Beczala, American bass-baritone Alan Held, and German mezzo-soprano Birgit Remmert.
