In celebration of 60 years of Israeli statehood, The Mandel JCC presents this fiercely humane and harrowing depiction of eight West Bank settlers who resist the dismantling of their settlement by Israeli Defense Forces. Set in the near future after the signing of a Peace Accord, Pangs of the Messiah explores an extended family’s divergent responses as Shmuel, the leader of the settlement movement, is forced to reckon with the legacy of his teachings.
Pangs of the Messiah was a 2008 Charles MacArthur Award for Outstanding New Play or Musical nominee and will be produced for The Mandel JCC Arts & Culture 2008-09 season.
