Gina’s Gallery & Boutique Spring 2008 Opening

Celebrating Cleveland Artists in Little Italy May 24, 2008

CLEVELAND – Gina’s Gallery & Boutique will be hosting an opening Sat. May 24 from 5-9 pm celebrating Cleveland artist Ann Vandervelde’s final show. Also showing “A Whisper of His Nature,” Ohio themed sculpture by Dan Grantham and the debut of the “Paper Doll Collection,” fashions by Duchess von Dudik. All artists will be present to discuss their work. Light refreshments. Gina’s Gallery & Boutique located in Little Italy at 2072 Murray Hill Rd.

Ann Vandervelde will show her final collection of paintings in Cleveland before relocating to Seattle. Vandervelde’s recent work has become increasingly abstract, often exploring the dichtomy between nature and man. She says, “I have always believed that paintings are a form of language. An image elicits immediate dialogue between itself and the viewer and it is not essential (sometimes counterintuitive) to understand what the artist was thinking/feeling at the moment of creation. A painting has a life that draws upon others’ experiences and that is what makes it so powerful.” Vandervelde is widely collected locally and is in collections both nationally and internationally. Her final show will run thru June 16, 2008.

Daniel Grantham’s “A Whisper of His Nature” features works in wood and stone based on local ecology. Grantham’s work has been shown throughout Ohio and collected internationally. “I seek to utilize my gifts to glorify God by creating work that celebrates His creation - which is the real art” Grantham says. “This show is based on my impressions…, ranging from striking groupings of swaying cattails to the complexities of color found in a Monarch butterfly caterpillar.” Grantham uses multiple artistic tools to help the viewer, as well as himself, understand the art in creation.

Duchess von Dudik is the in-house line of owner Gina Dudik. The whimsical Paper Doll Collection, Spring/Summer 2008, focuses heavily on appliques of girls and boys holding hands and topstitched on to party dresses, t-shirts and skirts. Dudik’s light hearted approach to fashion adds a sense of humor to every womens wardrobe while still flattering their figures. All clothing, from concept to creation, is manufactured inhouse. View present and past collections at www.duchessvondudik.com.

The May 24 reception from 5-9 will also highlight work by emerging artists Andy Curlowe and Katy Irving. Curlowe’s new series on panel and paper is based off the architecture of the Cleveland Botanical Gardens. Irving’s work is multimedia on panel.
