Making Strides for Breast Cancer comes to Lorain for the time on Saturday, May 31st, with nearly 100 participants committed to raising funds to advance breast cancer awareness and research. The event series, which launched in 1993, is the premier event produced by the American Cancer Society and offers participants a choice of walking their choice of a 1-, 2- or 3-mile course through Morningside, northeast Ohio’s premier Active Adult community.
Making Strides for Breast Cancer attracts women and men from the local area and across the county. Making Strides is noncompetitive - anyone can participate. You're free to walk as long as you can and take as long as you want to finish. Gather family, friends and coworkers to join you in the walk.
The American Cancer Society has been a major supporter of breast cancer organizations and programs throughout northeast Ohio for many years, but this is the first time a Making Strides satellite site will take place in the Amherst-Lorain-Vermilion area. The funds raised on Saturday will be distributed to local, regional and national breast cancer organizations.
Making Strides at Morningside begins Saturday, May 31st with an inspirational Opening Ceremony and pep rally, after which participants have the choice of walking or jogging 1-, 2- or 3 miles throughout the magnificently manicured Morningside, a nationally awarded Active Adult community bordering Vermilion and Amherst.
Supported by Oster Homes and an all volunteer crew of Morningside homeowners, the event is expected to attract over 100 walkers and supporters of all ages. Participants, including walkers and crew members, can spend the morning at the Morningside Clubhouse, which features, post-walk refreshments, information, and support services. A celebratory closing ceremony, announcing the proceeds from the day’s participants, will be held at 11:30 am at the 13,000 sq. ft. Morningside Clubhouse and Fitness Center.
Since the launch of the Making Strides Walk in 1993, nearly $194 million has been raised nationwide through the dedication of over 3 million participating women and men. Last year alone, nearly 400,000 participants raised more than $34 million, making 2007 the most successful Making Strides Walk in its 15-year history. More than 110 walks take place throughout the nation.
