On June 16, 2008, over 500 parents and professionals in the autism field from throughout Ohio and neighboring states will converge at the Milestones Conference: Life-Long Strategies for Success at Landerhaven in Mayfield Hts. This year’s keynote speaker will be Jed Baker, Ph.D., national author, clinical psychologist and expert on providing social skills training for students with Pervasive Developmental Disorders, Asperger’s Syndrome and learning disabilities. His books include: The Social Skills Picture Books Series for Children and Adolescents; The Social Skills Picture Books Series for High School and Beyond; and Preparing for Life.
Conference participants will have a choice of 21 sessions where they will learn how to:
• Support emerging language for non-verbal students
• Introduce behavioral strategies into play with young children
• Handle challenging behaviors
• Build writing, organizational and social skills for students with Asperger’s
• Access residential services and prepare for employment for young adults
Milestones Organization is a local organization helping parents and professionals in Northeast Ohio deal with the everyday challenges of autism. Founded in 2003, Milestones is here for parents today and as their child grows through adulthood.
• Each year, Milestones offers training and education to promote life long strategies for success for individuals on the autism/asperger’s spectrumes.
