The 4th Annual Brigadoon Beltane Festival
(Formerly the Celtic Beltane Festival)
Step back in time to 18th century Scotland. Enjoy visiting Brigadoon, a village that emerges from the highland mists just once a year. Sample the taste of Scottish foods, hear the pipers playing, watch dancers from Scotland and Wales as they perform jubilantly and perhaps invite you to take part. They'll show you how to "waulk" the wool and you can help. Many vendors of Celtic goods will sell you wares from Scotland, Ireland and Wales. The athletes will demonstrate their athletic prowess, casually tossing a telephone pole sized "caber" in the fields. The youngsters will be encouraged to try their own hands at this with the children's versions of the same events.
Highland cattle graze peacefully in a nearby field. Vikings demonstrate their ability to defeat foes in battle and tell you of their lore - very much a part of Celtic heritage. A highland soldier, recently returned from fighting on the side of King George in the American Revolution, will tell you his story and show you his kit. Many of the participants will be dressed in 18th century costume. There will be highland heritage displays and demonstrations. Books, used and new, will be for sale. Celtic harps will gently serenade you. Baskets containing many wondrous items will be raffled off to help raise funds for the benefit of Pegasus, an association dedicated to horseback riding therapy for those who are disabled or handicapped.
There will be a display of vintage cars next to the festival and wine tasting is readily available at Maize Valley Winery, the wonderful folks who kindly donate the use of their grounds as our location. Traditional music from Scotland, Ireland, and Wales will be featured via bands and through J & C Entertainment throughout the event. This will be a full and active day for singles, couples, and families. Come out and join the fun!
