Join Museum staff in an exploration of Southeast Arizona, a hotbed of birding and an area full of incredible geologic and natural history. Explore the varied habitats in the region, from a cottonwood-willow riparian forest in the Patagonia-Sonoita Creek Preserve to desert scrub and oak pine forest in the Santa Catalina Mountains. Marvel at the sheer abundance and diversity of bird species while keeping an eye out for the Elegant Trogon, Painted Redstart, Broad-billed and Magnificent Hummingbirds and Elf and Whiskered Screech Owls. Other wildlife viewings may include ringtail, javelina and many reptiles. We will visit Kitt Peak National Observatory, home to the world’s largest collection of optical telescopes, and the Fred Lawrence Whipple Observatory, located on Mount Hopkins at an elevation of 8,550 feet. We will be staying at the Santa Rita Lodge, a casual facility situated above a stream in the heart of Madera Canyon in the Coronado National Forest. Fee will include six nights’ lodging based on double occupancy, all meals from dinner on Tuesday night through breakfast on Monday morning, and all ground transportation within Arizona. Fee does not include flights to and from Tucson. Join us for this unique travel experience!
