Sat, Jul 19 | 9:00 PM (8:00 PM door) Mirrors featuring Jamie Klimek, Craig Bell, Paul Marotta $8.00 Tavern | All Ages CLICK FOR MORE INFO Mirrors, a truly seminal band! Appearing in Cleveland sometime in 1972,they started performing in 1973 before disbanding in September 1975.They were the formative band of the legendary ClePunk scene that lead to the inception of such important acts as Pere Ubu, Electric Eels,Styrenes, Dead Boys, Pagans, Rocket From The Tombs and a host of others.
Debate amongst commentators is often around the subject of whether Mirrors were proto-punk or proto-no wave? Well, maybe both or maybe neither. What we do know is that they sounded like no other band! Jamie Klimek formed Mirrors having witnessed the Velvet Undergound at La Cave in Cleveland. The experience inspired him to take up songwriting and guitar and other members. - Jim Crook (guitar), Craig Bell (bass - later replaced by Jim Jones),Michael Weldon (drums) and Paul Marotta (keyboards) - followed. The band drifted apart as other members formed new bands or joined others. It wasn't until 1977 that a single was released, 'Shirley' b/w 'She Smiled Wild'. Only 1000 copies were pressed and it remains a much sought after collectors item.
In 1989 Mirrors re-formed as a three-piece with Klimek in the lead, Marotta moving to bass and Paul Laurence on drums and in 1992 released an album on the Resonance label (now available on ROIR). In 1997 Scat included other early tracks on the Cleveland retrospective 'Those Were Different Times', and Overground Records has released "Hands In My Pockets", 60+ minutes of 70s studio, basement, and live recordings
Now for one night only, original members Jamie Klimek, Paul Marotta, Jim Crook, Craig Bell, and Paul Laurence will bring their earth shattering din of psychedelic, tribal, three-chord rock to the Beachland.
