Joe Stavec’s paintings exhibit his personal experiences in a vast subconscious realm he calls Dream Country. A place each of us frequents every night, both familiar and strange, commonplace and fantastic, Stavec views Dream Country as a subconscious expression of one’s individuality.
Upon awakening, one sometimes cannot immediately distinguish the imagined from the real. It is this experience of dreaming as “psychically real” that Stavec seeks to capture in Dream Country. Stavec believes these experiences are constructed from deeply rooted issues, which when encountered, can resonate to express our wishes and fears, while providing a vehicle for personal catharsis.
