Fair Trade Summit to take place in Oberlin, Ohio
Fair Trade advocates announce Northeast Ohio’s Bi-annual Fair Trade Summit to take place on Saturday September 6, 2008 at First Church in Oberlin, Ohio. The summit is designed for students and adults who are interested in learning more about Fair Trade and the Fair Trade movement in Ohio.
Fair Trade is an alternative way of doing business – one that builds equitable, long-term partnerships between consumers in North America and producers in developing regions. (Fair Trade Resource Network www.ftrn.org) The summit will allow for discussion of the growth of the Fair Trade Movement and how people can be conscious consumers by choosing to buy Fair Trade food items (coffee, tea, chocolate, fruit), crafts, clothing, and accessories.
Registration will begin at 11:30am with lunch to follow. The summit will open with “Fair Trade 101” at 12:30pm. Afternoon workshops will include sustainability, how to start a fair trade company, United Students for Fair Trade campaigns, how to host a successful fair trade marketplace at your place of worship, and how you can create your own Fair Trade footprint.
Pre-Registration for the summit is preferred by September 1. The suggested donation is $10 or $5 for students.
The summit is sponsored by Ben Franklin/ Mind Fair, Bonner Scholars, First Church UCC in Oberlin, Ginko Gallery & Studio, House of Healing Outreach, INTO, Heartbeats, InterReligious Task Force on Central America, Oberlin College Library, Revive, and Santa Elena Project of Accompaniment.
