2008 has been the most successful year to date for the Veterans Memorial Bridge and subway tour. Over 3,657 visitors explored the lower level during the 2008 May and July tours. “It is apparent that, through the large number of visitors so far this year, the interest in the old streetcar system and Cleveland’s history is rapidly increasing,” says Robert C. Klaiber, Jr., P.E., P.S., Cuyahoga County Engineer. The FINAL tour for 2008 will be held on Saturday, August 30, 2008. Per usual the doors to the lower level will open at 9:00 a.m. and the event will close at 3:00 p.m. The main entrance is located at the northeast corner of the W. 25th Street and Detroit Avenue intersection, at the Cuyahoga County Engineer’s Bridge Garage, 2433 Superior Viaduct. Volunteers will be assisting with the maintenance of traffic and parking on the day of the tour. Free parking is located at the aforementioned address. Cameras are encouraged for this all age event. For questions or concerns prior to the tour, please either visit our website or contact the Cuyahoga County Engineer’s Public Information Department at 216-348-3824, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. On the day of the tour, please contact 216-348-3900/3901.
