TICKETS ON SALE FOR FIRST-EVER “NEIGHBORHOODS OF SHAKER SQUARE HOME TOUR” SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 27, 2008 2:00PM TO 6:00PM
Tickets are now on sale for the first-ever “Neighborhoods of Shaker Square Home Tour” at www.shad.org for $15. Sergio’s SARAVA, located at 13225 Shaker Square, will welcome attendees to the home tour. A limited number of $20 tickets will be available for purchase the day of the event. Event proceeds will benefit the Shaker Square Area Development Corporation (SHAD). The Neighborhoods of Shaker Square Home Tour will feature the different types of housing, including single-family houses, multi-family homes, and condominiums. Some of the properties that will be featured on the tour include: • “The Dandelion House,” a single-family home seeking Gold status from the US Green Building Council’s LEED status (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), in the Ludlow neighborhood. Featured in several news outlets and at the recent Great Lakes Brewing Company Burning River Festival as one of the most environmentally friendly homes in Ohio; • Two spectacular suites in Moreland Courts, which is one of the most historic and exquisite properties in Northeast Ohio; • A five-bedroom, two-story Shaker Courts penthouse with terraced rooftop gardens in the Condo Corridor; • A newly-renovated Cleveland double in the Larchmere neighborhood; • Felice Urban Café, a new restaurant located in a restored turn of the century home in the Larchmere neighborhood; and, • A new construction townhome in the Larchmere Commercial District.
The art, antique, restaurant, and entertainment establishments in Shaker Square’s two commercial districts will be promoted during the event.
Anna Arnold, Charles Burkett, Rodney Carpenter, and Mary Urbas are among the many neighborhood artists that will be featured during a special gallery exposition. A group of volunteers from the Shaker Square neighborhoods of CHALK, Larchmere, Ludlow, the condo corridor, and the apartment corridor are planning the event to promote the following neighborhood assets: • Financial Incentives - The Greater Circle Living Initiative offers forgivable loans and rent reimbursements towards owner-occupied Shaker Square properties for those who work in the University Circle area • Lower Transportation Costs - Save on gas and car maintenance costs by riding the RTA rapid commuter rail to downtown Cleveland or the bus to University Circle • Walkable City Amenities – Most necessities and amenities are within walking distance, such as a six-screen Cineplex, art galleries, a full-service grocery store, drug store, coffee shops, and specialty shops and services • Vibrant People - The neighborhood is home to diverse and creative residents representing a myriad of cultures, ages and professions • Fabulous Food – A variety of restaurants that appeal to every taste and budget call the neighborhood home, including some of the region’s most prolific chefs and patio seating • Special Events - North Union Farmers Market, Larchmere Merchants Association Sidewalk Sales, the Coral Company’s free summer concert series, and other special-interest events • Parks and Recreation – Nearby Shaker Lakes features six natural habitats -- lake, stream, marsh, field, ravine and forest. Amenities include a Nature Center, two hiking trails, and a bike path that connects with University Circle and eastern suburbs. The volunteer planning committee welcomes the following: • Cash sponsorships that will help defray event costs; • Promotional partnerships that will help market the event, and • Volunteers to help plan or work the day of the event.
