Ray Muniak's exhibit features carvings made from cast-off wood that has within itself a hidden form that he is at first unaware of. As he works the piece and removes the decayed areas it guides him in different directions. The next stage is to connect all the holes, valleys, and edges with flowing lines all the while trying to stretch the edge of the woods capabilities. They represent a life force, a spirituality, or mankind. The object is then meticulously sanded then finished with hand rubbed oils. Presentation, almost as important as the piece itself, allows me to add to the story. The focus of his art is to create objects of beauty that is both calming and mentally titillating. There will be a special artist's reception on Saturday, November 1, from 4 to 6 p.m. and Muniak will speak about the creative process at 4:30 pm.
