BAB EL HADID
Egypt, 1958, Youssef Chahine
Youssef Chahine, who died in July, was Egypt’s foremost filmmaker and the Arab world’s best-known director. Tonight we honor this master with a screening of one of his greatest and most beloved films, Cairo Station, currently celebrating its 50th anniversary. Set in Cairo’s busy train depot, the fast-moving picture mixes neo-realism with film noir in its tale of a crippled, deranged newspaper vendor (Chahine) who falls obsessively in love with a sexy soft-drink seller. 35mm. Subtitles. 76 min. www.arabfilm.com Introduced by CIA professor Maureen Kiernan, an expert on Arab cinema.
Show Times Oct 04 (Sat) - 7:35PM
