New 35mm Color Print!
KAGEMUSHA
Japan, 1980, Akira Kurosawa
Also known as The Shadow Warrior, this late masterwork from the director of Seven Samurai was co-produced by Francis Coppola and George Lucas and proved the most expensive Japanese movie up to its time. The great Tatsuya Nakadai plays a 16th-century thief who is spared execution when he agrees to impersonate a secretly-deceased warlord whom he resembles, and thus dupe the warlord’s many enemies. This majestic humanistic spectacle, Shakespearean in conception, won the top prize at Cannes 1980. We will show the first new 35mm print in many years. Cleveland revival premiere. Subtitles. 35mm. 159 min.
Show Times Oct 17 (Fri) - 9:10PM Oct 18 (Sat) - 7:00PM
