A MAN NAMED PEARL

USA, 2006, Scott Galloway, Brent Pierson

“Black people don't keep up their yards.” That racist remark was all it took for African-American factory worker Pearl Fryer to take up topiary and strive to become the first black man to win Bishopville, South Carolina’s “Yard of the Month” award. Working on three and a half acres, this real-life Edward Scissorhands created an amazing, beautiful, spiritually-uplifting garden that garnered national attention. An inspiring crowd-pleaser! Cleveland premiere. 35mm. 78 min. www.amannamedpearl.com
