Go behind the tinsel and hear the truth about Santa straight from the eight reindeer who know him best.
Directed by Yvonne E. Pilzarczyk
A dark, dark Christmas comedy. Scandal erupts at the North Pole when one of Santa's eight tiny reindeer accuses him of sexual harassment. As mass media descends upon the event, the other members of the sleigh team demand to share their perspectives, and a horrific tale of corruption and perversion emerges, which seems to implicate everyone from the littlest elf to the tainted Saint himself.
With each deer's confession, the truth behind the shocking allegations becomes clearer and clearer. ...and murkier and murkier…
Playwright Jeff Goode took part of his inspiration for this twisted Christmas tale from the character of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer – which was originally created in 1939 as a promotional gimmick for the Montgomery Ward department store chain.
The Eight: Reindeer Monologues debuted as a reading at Chicago’s Hidden Theatre Company in December of 1993. A full-length production was mounted by the Dolphinback Theatre Company’s “Rhino Theatre Festival” the following year, and saw it’s New York debut with the Adobe Theatre Company in December, 1994.
“A tart alternative to candy-cane cheer…” -- The New York Times “…a devious take on Christmas in a politically correct world.” -- Chicago Sun-Times
