Though it might seem a bit shocking to the casual Metromix reader, our attitude toward books is an unequivocal YES. Though we're big on good times and nightlife, we've learned that books come in handy time and again.
For instance, if your credit's blown from a weekend of partying, books are cheap. They also don't induce hangovers or that nasty bloated feeling. Your friends might blow you off, and your pickup lines might falter, but a good book never fails. Books are also a great way to enjoy a mellow poolside beverage, floating away one's cares in the Cleveland sun.
For those of you whose bibliophilia is more than a footnote, let's get you hip to the 62nd Annual Book Sale at Case Western Reserve University, held May 30 - June 2 at the Adelbert Gymnasium. Sale hours are noon to 6 p.m. Saturday, Sunday and Monday and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 2.
Connoisseurs and collectors will find plenty to hunt down. Highlighting this year's sale are signed first editions of "The Da Vinci Code" and Dr. Seuss' "The King's Stilts" from 1939. Thousands of titles in almost every conceivable field will be available, along with countless tapes, CDs, and videos.
On Saturday morning, a $20 admission gets you into a special 10 a.m. sale. Plunking down your money means you get a primo shot (book buyers can get downright hostile at times) at some books you might enjoy. Sunday's 4 p.m. sale features an auction; Don’t forget to save some pennies for Monday and Tuesday, when books will be sold at $5 a box.
We're talking about more than 60,000 books, people! It's possible to learn AND party. Didn't P-Funk say, "Free your mind and your a-- will follow?"
