Join CVNP for a special viewing of the new six-part documentary series, The National Parks: America`s Best Idea, directed by famous filmaker Ken Burns and co-produced by Dayton Duncan, who also wrote the script. It is the story of an idea as uniquely American as the Declaration of Independence and just as radical: that the most special places in the nation should be preserved, not for royalty or the rich, but for everyone.

Filmed over the course of more than six years in some of nature`s most spectacular locals, the documentary is nonetheless a story of people from every conceivable background who devoted themselves to saving some precious portion of the land they loved, and in doing so, reminded their fellow citizens of the full meaning of democracy. The narrative traces the birth of the national park idea in the mid-1800s and follows its evolution for nearly 150 years.

Our big-screen viewings are concurrent with the PBS broadcasts. Except for the first night, programs are free and require no reservations. Doors open at 7:30pm; program is from 8 to 10pm. After each episode, there is an optional gathering around the campfire for people to share thier national park stories.

Friday, October 2. "The Morning of Creation (1946-1980)" Episode followed by a short ranger-led hike along the Haskell Run Trail.
