YIDDISHE CUP: A Tribute to Mickey Katz Thursday, August 9, 2012. Alma Theater, 7pm. In advance $22 center, $20 sides. Day of show $25/23. One of the top 10 klezmer bands in America, Cleveland's Yiddishe Cup focuses their cabaret on the songs and comedy of Cleveland klezmer musician and Joel Grey's father, Mickey Katz. Klezmer music is a hybrid of Eastern European Jewish folk music, American swing, Yiddish theater tunes and Israeli horas. New Zealand's The Evening Post called it a 'delicious concoction that sounds like jazz but with 11 secret herbs and spices added.' Yiddishe Cup is funny, spirited and light up the stage with their eccentric mix of Yiddish music and comedy.
