Participants' program: June 18 -- July 29
Performances: July 26, 28 and 29, 2012
Through music, movement, improvisation, visual theater arts, stage combat and creative playwriting, participants in this six-week program will develop awareness of their strengths, fears, dreams and struggles. They will build confidence and trust as a performing troupe and at the end of the program will publicly showcase their work in an original theater piece we're calling "Angels and Demons." Themes to be explored include right and wrong, heroes and villains, fighting for justice, paradox and stereotypes. Diverse in their backgrounds and skill levels, the kids will be led by an energetic team of Near West Theatre staff and young-adult instructors. Regular sessions will be Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 12 noon, from June 18 through July 26, at a neighborhood location that will be announced soon. Performances will be Thursday, July 26, at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, July 28, at 3:00 p.m.; and Sunday, July 29, at 3:00 p.m.
