Non-profit Organization Versatile Dance Company will bring a brand new live dance & music show to the Hanna Theatre entitled "I, Alone." All proceeds will benefit The Autism Center at UH Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital. The show will feature special guests such as Lauren Froderman (winner of Fox's So You Think You Can Dance season 7) and singer/songwriter from the UK, Richard Walters.
We all share in the understanding of feeling alone or left out. At one time or another, every person longs to fit in, and believe that they belong. Society pushes us to crave acceptance, and shows us a mirage of how an individual should act, what they should look like, and who they should be. This constant desire for approval is the root of Versatile Dance Company's latest production, "I, Alone".
Two worlds collide in this dynamic dance performance, which will incorporate live singers, and dancing in styles such as Contemporary, Lyrical, Jazz, Tap, Hip Hop and Acrobatics. "I, Alone" celebrates how unique each and every person is, and ties into the statistic that 1 in every 88 children in the U.S. are diagnosed with autism. The project was created by Cleveland's own Mitchel Federan (from Broadway's The Boy From Oz & The Music Man) who formed Versatile Dance Company at the age of 17. Now age 20, Federan hopes his new show will bring together the city in which he grew up in and plans on giving back to for the rest of his life.
"I, Alone" will be at the Hanna Theatre August 4-5, 2012. Tickets are $35.00-$60.00 and can be purchased by going online to http://www.playhousesquare.org/default.asp?playhousesquare=58&objId=3005 , calling 216-241-6000 or visiting the State Theatre Ticket Office.
