Lee Murdock - The Irish in America

March 18, 2017 8PM to 10:00 PM

Saturday, March 18, 2017 at 8pm
Lee Murdock - "The Irish in America"
Cirigliano Studio Theatre of Stocker Arts Center

In celebration of St. Patrick’s Day, join Lee Murdock for a musical celebration of Ireland – with songs of the Emerald Isle and from the Irish-American immigrant experience. Be ready to join in a boisterous chorus of a famous Irish Pub song, share the sly joke in a humorous old ballad, follow along to a soft Irish air or an infectious dance tune. Follow the Irish across “The Big Pond” with songs of the Irish immigrants who settled in Ohio and around the Great Lakes, a landscape so reminiscent of their homeland. Share an authentic ancestry-story told through family letters, and hear anthems of those who helped to build the canals and railroads that opened up America’s frontiers. Best-known for his interpretations of local and Great Lakes songs, Lee has also spent many years researching and performing songs from Ireland. In fact, his musical influences span over five centuries, from ancient Celtic harp melodies and piano rags written by the likes of Scott Joplin, to more contemporary American music.
