Behind the Musical: “Annie”

Hoke Theatre of Stocker Arts Center

Leapin’ Lizards! Hard to believe it’s been 40 years since the darling red-headed orphan debuted on Broadway, and that she took so many hard knocks along the way. It was lyricist and director Martin Charnin’s idea to make a family musical based on the famous comic strip — just about everyone on Broadway thought he was crazy. Only when Mike Nichols stepped in as producer was the show saved, and all the trials and tribulations paid off in a Tony Award-winning bonanza. We’ll include all of the songs from Charnin and Charles Strouse’s terrific score including the iconic “Tomorrow,” “Maybe,” “It’s a Hard-Knock Life,” “Easy Street” and “You’re Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile.” Co-hosted by Bill Rudman and Nancy Maier, featuring Sheri Gross, Gilgamesh Taggett (who’s playing Daddy Warbucks in the national tour) and Lexi Cowan. Members of our own LCCC Chorale will be joining in on many of the songs. Annie’s story — and the back story of this feel-good musical’s creation — is filled with hope that the “sun’ll come out tomorrow.”

Tickets for the Random Acts Series events are $20/adults; $18/Seniors 65+; $10/LCCC Students with valid ID, Children 18 and under, and Active Duty Military with valid ID
