REEL Science: Creature from the Black Lagoon in 3D

April 12, 2017

Cinema science vs. the facts!
--
After discovering a unique prehistoric claw fossil on an expedition deep in the jungle, paleontologists investigate its origins which lead them directly to a mysterious half-man, half-fish creature. A group of scientists try to capture the animal and bring it back to civilization for study. Introduction and post-film Q&A with Curator of Vertebrate Paleontology Dr. Michael Ryan.

Hollywood is known as the dream factory—the place where the best and brightest creative minds produce films that entertain, inspire and yes — even educate. But what happens when movie magic is made at the expense of scientific fact? #REELScience tackles science on the silver screen — from stoically serious blockbusters to outrageously campy cult classics. Hear from Museum experts as they put these movies under the microscope to determine what the filmmakers got right... and what is better classified as “creative license.” Join us on this sometimes shocking, often hilarious and always illuminating journey into Reel Science!
