Sullivan's Travels at Loganberry Books Classic Movie Night

November 16, 2017 7pm to 830pm

Successful movie director John L. Sullivan (Joel McCrea), convinced he won't be able to film his ambitious masterpiece until he has suffered, dons a hobo disguise and sets off on a journey, aiming to "know trouble" first-hand. When all he finds is a train ride back to Hollywood and a beautiful blonde companion (Veronica Lake), he redoubles his efforts, managing to land himself in more trouble than he bargained for when he loses his memory and ends up a prisoner on a chain gang.

In 1990, Sullivan's Travels was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant." In 2007, the American Film Institute ranked it as the #61 Greatest American Movie of All Time

Preston Sturges was a director who burned brightly from 1940-1944, directing a half a dozen great comedies. But as bright as he burned he crashed just as quickly. But the five years during WWII are up there with any directors five years.

So come watch the movie amid the stacks of the best bookstore in Northeast Ohio. Usually we venture off for a late bit at Felice's Urban Cafe afterwards.
