NASA Free Evening

March 10, 2018 17:00 to 20:00

Great Lakes Science Center welcomes NASA’s Glenn Research Center for a special evening of space-related programming and FREE general admission for all guests from 5-8 p.m. Saturday, March 10.

As part of the event, the Science Center is very excited to welcome former Astronaut Terry Virts who spent 200 days aboard the International Space Station (ISS) and is one of only four astronauts to have piloted a space shuttle, flown on a Russian Soyuz spacecraft, performed space walks and commanded the ISS. He will give a presentation beginning at 5:30 p.m. and sign copies of his book “View from Space” published by National Geographic.

NASA will also highlight the Space Launch System (SLS) rocket that will usher in a new era of exploration of deep space destinations with a 32-foot inflatable replica of the rocket and a special presentation by Dr. Aaron Weaver. He will discuss NASA Glenn’s role in the evolution of the SLS at 7:15 p.m.

Representatives of NASA’s Graphics & Visualization Laboratory will demonstrate cutting-edge human interaction and graphic technologies that drive exploration. Visitors can don a headset and experience virtual reality and other experiences that allow researchers to unlock the secrets of complex data.

Visitors can take home a free photograph of themselves as an astronaut from the "Picture Yourself in Space" digital photo booth, visit with Eva, a larger than life inflatable astronaut, check out the Lift Off Big Science Show at 7:45 p.m. and get hands on with science activities.
