KSU Wind Ensemble Partnership Concert

May 4, 2018 7:30 PM to 9 PM


“This will be our reply to violence: to make music more intensely, more beautifully, more devotedly than ever before.” The title of this concert comes from a statement written by composer and conductor Leonard Bernstein after the assassination of President John F. Kennedy in 1963. Performed in partnership with Olmsted Falls High School, Jesse Leyva conducts the Kent Wind Ensemble and KSU alumnus Julie Budd conducts the Olmsted Falls High School Wind Symphony. Join them in commemorating May 4, 1970, on Fri., May 4, 2018, at 7:30 p.m. in University Auditorium, Cartwright Hall.

Free admission and parking. Cartwright Hall is at 650 Hilltop Drive, Kent Campus, with parking off of Terrace Drive.

-Gustav Holst: Mvt 3 & 4 Song of the Blacksmith and Fantasia on the Dargason from 2nd Suite in F Major
-Alfred Reed: Armenian Dances No. 1

Kent Wind Ensemble Repertoire:
-Bernstein: Symphony No. 1, "Jeremiah": II. Profanation (arr. for wind orchestra)
-Lo Presti: Elegy for a Young American
-Copland/Beeler: A Lincoln Portrait
-Bernstein/Grundman: Slava (A Political Satire)
