Astronomy Day

April 21, 2018 10:00 to 16:00

Discover the nature of your universe and celebrate National Astronomy Day with us!

Learn more about the final frontier on this fun-filled day of cosmological exploration. Visit Ralph Mueller Observatory and take a look through its 10½-inch refracting telescope, aimed at Venus for daytime viewing, weather permitting. For an additional $5/ticket, see a planetarium show presented by an astronomer.

Touch and learn about meteorites that have fallen from outer space. Find out about the composition of Earth’s closest celestial neighbor with the help of a moon globe, moon maps and samples of the two major lunar rock types, basalt and anorthosite.

Kids can participate in a variety of games and activities, including out-of-this-world imaginative play with an astronaut play station and a planet craft.

Local astronomy clubs will be on site to share the wonders of the sky with specially outfitted telescopes for safe solar viewing, weather permitting. The club members will also have an assortment of other telescopes and astronomical photographs, and answer questions about amateur astronomy.

Astronomy Day is included with the cost of general admission. Members get in free!
