Michael Nesmith & The First National Band

September 15, 2018 7:00 PM

Michael Nesmith came to worldwide prominence as a member of the Monkees, one of the biggest pop bands of the 1960s. As the Monkees popular TV series was winding down, Nesmith looked to the future. In May of 1968, Nesmith ventured to Nashville to record a series of groundbreaking sessions with local musicians. What they produced is now recognized as being on the leading edge of the genre that became known as country rock. He formed the First National Band, which released eight innovative albums from 1970 to 1978. Early this year, Nesmith reignited the band for the first time since the 1970s. Nesmith's sons, Christian and Jonathan, are among the members of the new First National Band lineup. The Kent Stage appearance is one of only a handful of dates scheduled for the tour.
