The electronic media exhibition “Outside the Box: New Cinematic Experiences” opens January 18, 2006, at the Emily Davis Gallery of Folk Hall, at The University of Akron. The exhibition features experimental works that challenge the boundaries of traditional cinema. Using computer and electronic technology, the exhibition will showcase works by seven pioneering media artists who explore such subjects as computer game hacking, interactive cinema, and database driven movies. Exhibition artists include Jud Yalkut, Cory Arcangel, Toni Dove, Lev Manovich and Andreas Kratky, Tennessee Rice Dixon, and Paul Catanese. The opening reception featuring UA jazz musicians, on January 18, from 4:30 to 7 p.m. (150 E. Exchange St., Akron, OH) is free and open to the public. Gallery hours are Mon., Tue., Fri., Sat. from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., Wed. & Thur. 10 a.m. – 9 p.m., closed Sunday. The exhibition runs through February 24, 2006.
