SUMMARY Responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations of Dunham Tavern Museum, a public, nonprofit museum and the oldest building on its original foundation in the city of Cleveland.
Qualifications, Desired Skills + Personal Characteristics: College degree and non-profit experience preferred, as well as experience in working with a Board and other volunteers. Interest and/or experience in historic preservation or museum work is a plus. Desired computer skills may include word processing, database management, desktop publishing, and website management (training will be provided for a candidate with a good basic foundation). Knowledge of public relations and marketing techniques desirable. As the single professional staff person, the candidate will need excellent organizational abilities and a self-starter work ethic.
Responsibilities: Time will be provided for the Museum Manager to help create and grow into the job. Initial responsibilities, in conjunction with selected Board members, will include refining the office setup and procedures and developing administrative systems.
Direct responsibilities: •First line of communication for all types of phone inquiries and information •Operate as membership manager, including sending out new member packets, designing membership collateral materials, mailing renewals and so on •Keep database information updated •Schedule docents for special guided tours (school tours, Red Hat tours, etc.) on days not regularly open •Coordinate schedule for caretaker/security •Update website and myspace pages •Handle promotion, requests, arrangements and records for Barn rentals •Be on-site for specific and “floating” periods of time each week •In general, maintain and administer the Museum office •Assist and support the Board and volunteers in planning and implementing projects and activities (e.g., docents, fundraisers, community gardens, school and adult tours and programs) •Take on or assist with membership newsletter, publicity and marketing, print jobs and mailings •Look for and recommend to the Board opportunities for revenue enhancement, as well as activities and events that fall within our strategic/operational plan •Represent DTM at training, networking and collaborative meetings, as required and negotiated •Order office supplies •Act as docent, as necessary Assignments and time commitments for these activities will be at the direction of, and in negotiation with, the Board President or his/her delegated representative.
Terms: •Part-time position (10 hrs/wk) •Ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends •Salary commensurate with experience •Benefits: Two weeks vacation per year
